Found a trick for cleaning sticky aperture blades without full disassembly

Had a Yashica-Mat with oily blades that wouldn't close, tried dabbing lighter fluid on a q-tip and letting it wick into the gap while I worked the blades manually. After 3 tries they moved freely again - has anyone else gotten away with this shortcut on TLR shutters?

Yeah but lighter fluid can mess up the shutter lubricant in those old Copal shutters.

Changed my mind on this, @robertgreen. Used to think lighter fluid was fine for cleaning old shutters. But you're probably right about the Copal lubricants. Those old greases can get real goopy and weird when solvent hits them. Better to stick with proper shutter cleaner.

Real goopy and weird" is exactly why I'd still use lighter fluid... just let it all evaporate before reassembling.
