A retired tech told me to stop cleaning focus screens with canned air, and it cost me a $40 mistake to learn why
I was working on a Nikon FE last Tuesday and a retired repair guy who hangs around the shop watched me hit a focus screen with canned air, and he told me I was asking for trouble because the propellant can spit and leave spots. I shrugged it off until the next day when a customer's screen came back with a cloudy film right in the center, and I had to eat the cost of a replacement. Does anyone here use a bulb blower or a soft brush instead, or is there a better way to pull dust off those plastic screens without touching them?
