Found out QME doctors get paid way more for reports than I thought
I was digging through the DWC website last night and saw that a QME can bill up to $1,200 just for a comprehensive report, which explains why my last one took three months to schedule.

My buddy had a QME a few months back for his shoulder injury. He paid $850 upfront for the exam and then got a $3,200 bill for the report a week later. The doctor spent maybe 20 minutes with him, typed on a laptop the whole time, and didn't even look at his MRI results. He said the report was just a few pages of boilerplate text with his name at the top.

Damn @gibson.elizabeth that story is wild. I used to think QMEs were pretty legit because I figured doctors would actually review your records before writing a report. But hearing about your buddy paying $850 upfront and then getting hit with a $3200 bill for a generic report changes my mind completely. Twenty minutes and they didn't even look at the MRI? That's ridiculous. The whole system feels like a money grab when doctors can just copy paste boilerplate and charge thousands for it. Your buddy got scammed hard and honestly it makes me wonder how many people get stuck with those bills for basically nothing useful.
