Why does nobody talk about how a $12 moisture meter changed my whole glue up game
Bought a cheap pin meter at a pawn shop in Tulsa about 7 months ago, mostly just to check firewood. Started poking it into every board that came through the shop, and found my "kiln dried" walnut was reading 12 percent while the maple was at 6. Glued up a face frame mixing the two without thinking, and 3 days later I had a 1/16 inch gap open up at the joint that I had to chisel out and redo. Now I let anything over 9 percent sit in the shop for a week or two before it touches glue, and I have not had a joint open up since. What do you all use to check moisture, or am I the only one who ignored this for way too long?
