The worst feedback I got was from a $250 job I messed up

Client said my drawer slides were off by 3mm on all 8 drawers and she was right. After that I started using a digital caliper on every single install, not just the first one. Anyone else get humbled by a measurement check that saved their rep?

Man, 3mm is brutal... digital calipers are a lifesaver now though.

Used to think it was overkill until I screwed up a front door by 2mm. Changed my tune fast.

Used to roll my eyes at guys who measured everything twice on site... thought it was just nervous energy or overkill honestly. Then I had a similar wake up call on a kitchen job where my reveal gaps were off by maybe 2mm on one side and the homeowner pointed it out with a level. Felt like an idiot because I'd been doing cabinets for years at that point and thought my eye was good enough. Now I check with a digital caliper before I even drill the first pilot hole, saves so much headache later. It's that one mistake that finally got through to me, measurement checks aren't about being paranoid they're about not having to redo work for free.
