I used to think pocket screws were fine for face frames, then I rebuilt a 6 foot vanity in Raleigh
For about 3 years I built every face frame with pocket screws and glue. Last month a client in Raleigh sent me a picture of a 6 foot vanity where the joint had opened up maybe 1/16 inch after one summer of humidity. I pulled the frame, cut it apart, and redid it with mortise and tenon. The difference in how solid it feels when you rack it side to side is not small, and that frame has not moved since. Anyone here still running pocket screws on painted face frames, or did you switch after a callback too?
