Hinge screws stripped on a $200 soft close and I'm not blaming the hardware

Had a set of frameless cabinets in a kitchen remodel outside Columbus where every single hinge screw pulled right out of the particle board. 18 hinges, 72 screws, maybe 8 months after install. Everyone online says use longer screws or bigger anchors, but the real problem was I drilled pilot holes too small and the heat from friction softened the board over time. Bought a $50 doweling jig, plugged every hole with 8mm hardwood dowels and epoxy, redrilled, and remounted. Took two full days but zero callbacks since. Am I crazy for thinking pilot hole size matters more than the hinge brand on these cheap boxes?

You ever notice how a $50 jig suddenly becomes the most valuable tool in your truck after a job like that? Tbh, I stripped a whole drawer slide once with a cordless drill that was too hot, and now I just hand twist the last few turns on anything particle board. Two days of doweling sounds rough, but honestly, that's way better than driving back for free warranty work later.
