That $70 Lodge cast iron skillet I bought 8 years ago is still going strong. Daily use.

Neighbor said I was crazy for buying a heavy hunk of metal. Said non-stick is better. His $40 non-stick pan is in the trash. Mine's still here. Not even warped. Has anyone else had a Lodge hold up this long?

Man, that's exactly how it goes... people don't get that a good cast iron pan just gets better over time. I've had my Lodge for about a decade now and it's seen everything from steaks to cornbread without a single complaint. Just keep it seasoned and dried good after washing, and it'll outlast us both.

@foster.charles you hit the nail on the head about drying it good. That's the trick I learned the hard way. I left mine wet once and got a rust spot that took forever to fix. Now I heat it on the stove for a minute after washing and rub a tiny bit of oil on it while it's still warm. @masonbell that's right about them getting better too. My grandmother's old pan is smooth as glass on the cooking surface from all those years of use.

Read something about how they actually get better with use, like a good pair of boots.
