My hardware store's best ads once came from chat over the counter.

For thirty years, folks would stop by and talk, leading to steady work. Now, I'm trying online listings but it feels less connected. What methods are you all using to keep that community feel alive?

Chat over the counter worked because it was real talk. Why not try a local Facebook group where you post a weekly repair challenge? You give tips, folks share their fixes, and it starts those back-and-forth chats online. It’s not just listing items, it’s solving problems together like the old days.

Tried that with my local group. It's all photos of mystery parts and 'what's this thing'. Not exactly solving problems.

The old hardware store in my town tried a Facebook page like that. It just turned into people asking if we were open on holidays. The idea is solid, but the internet has a way of missing the point.
