I thought a $497 mastermind in Cincinnati was a scam, then I looked at the books 8 months later
Back in January I got pitched to join a small business mastermind. 9 people, $497 a month, meetings every other Tuesday in a conference room above a bagel shop in Cincinnati. I almost said no. I have been running a 3 person landscaping company for 11 years and I have seen plenty of guys pay for groups like this and get nothing but a group chat and a PDF. But my wife pushed me to try one quarter. What changed my mind was not the meetings. It was that the guy running it made us open our profit and loss sheets in front of each other. Having 8 other owners see that my equipment repairs were eating 14 percent of revenue was worse than any accountant lecture. Two of them ran lawn crews too and told me exactly what they charge for spring cleanup in their zip codes. I raised my spring rate by $75 a yard in March and nobody blinked. 8 months in, I have added about $31,000 in revenue and I dropped my worst 6 clients. I still think most paid groups are junk. This one happened to work because everyone had skin in the game. Curious if any other owners here have paid for a group like this and whether it paid off or flopped.
