The $40 moving dolly that saved my shoulder and my friendship

I helped my buddy pack up his apartment in Cleveland last month and we were both dreading hauling his massive bookshelf down three flights of stairs, so I finally spent $40 on a rental moving dolly at the hardware store. It took us maybe 45 minutes total instead of the whole afternoon we'd built up in our heads, and we actually ended the day laughing instead of fighting about whose fault the scratches were. Has anyone else found that spending a little on the right tool keeps a favor from turning into a burned bridge?

Rental dollies cost more than buying one, so that $40 was really just the start.
