My best friend of 12 years asked to move in after his divorce and I said no, now half our group thinks I'm a jerk
When my buddy Marcus split with his wife 8 months ago he asked if he could crash in my spare room for a few months to get back on his feet, and I told him no because I watched him live off his brother in Columbus for 2 years without paying a dime. He said some pretty rough stuff about me after that and two guys from our old crew stopped answering my calls. Part of me thinks a real friend says yes no matter what, and part of me thinks lending money or space to someone with a pattern just makes you the next person he burns. I picked keeping my place and my peace and I would do it the same way again, but it cost me people I actually liked. Where do you all draw the line between helping a friend and just being the next guy in line to get used?
