The inspector's '3 foot rule' for outlet spacing was right and I fought him for nothing

Last month in Tacoma, an inspector told me my outlet spacing in a kitchen reno was too wide. He said the rule isn't just about distance, it's about counting studs between them so you don't have to run a cord across a counter seam. I pushed back, but checked the code book and he was spot on. Re-doing that run cost me $140 in wire and time, but now every future layout gets the stud count first. Anyone else ever been saved by a code inspector's offhand comment?
