The hidden drainage issue at a rest stop in Alabama taught me more about grading than school ever did
Stopped at a rest area near Montgomery last month and watched water pool up against the foundation after a quick rain. The whole parking lot had a negative slope toward the building, so all the runoff just sat there. Talked to the maintenance guy and he said they've had to repatch the base three times in two years because of it. Anyone else notice how bad public spots handle water flow?

They should check it, but half the time the contractor just rushes it through to get paid. That negative slope is amateur hour. If you ever see that, the fix is to install a trench drain along the low point, then run the pipe away from the building. Otherwise that foundation is gonna crack and settle in a few years. The maintenance guy's story matches what I've seen too. Water finds the weak spot every single time.
