My foreman told me to double my anchor bolt spacing, and the inspector passed it first try
My foreman Dale told me last month to stop putting anchor bolts every 12 inches on these sill plates and go to 24 inches instead. I pushed back because the plans looked like they wanted them tight, but he said the engineer over-specs it and the inspector out of Des Moines only cares about edge distance. So I tried it on a 40 foot wall pour and the guy walked the whole thing in 10 minutes and signed off without a word. Now I am wondering if I have been burning an extra 6 hours per wall for two years for nothing. Anybody else had a lead tell them something that sounded lazy but turned out right?
What's the wind zone on those walls though? I get that the inspector waved it through, but if you're in a high wind area or seismic zone, that spacing could bite you later on a re-roof or an add-on when a different engineer looks at it. Dale might be right about the inspector, but the plans are still the plans if something goes wrong down the road.
