Dropped $350 on a laser level that barely works outside
Bought one of those green self-leveling lasers last month for a retaining wall project in Boise and it was useless past 20 feet in daylight. Had to redo the whole layout with a string line and a basic bubble level, which took most of Saturday. Anyone else found a brand that actually holds up outdoors, or should I just stick with string and stakes from now on?
My buddy went through the same thing last summer on a fence line out in the sun. He tried three different brands, even one that bragged about being "outdoor ready," and every single one washed out by the time he got 30 feet out. He ended up taping a piece of red plastic over the lens just to see the dot, which sort of worked but threw off the accuracy. In the end he sold the thing on marketplace and went back to stakes and mason line. Kind of funny how the old ways keep winning.
