The $14 spreadsheet that ended my gym membership debate
My buddy Dave kept pushing me to join his $60 a month gym, and I almost caved after a rough week. Instead, I sat down at a diner and mapped out what I actually used: a pull-up bar, some dumbbells, and a jump rope I already owned. Turns out I was paying for motivation I didn't need, just because he made it sound fun. I told him, "I'll save the cash and sweat in my garage," and he laughed, but I've stuck with it for 3 months now. The wild part is I put that $180 into a separate jar and used it for new work boots when my old ones gave out. Anyone else ditched a club membership because you realized your home setup was already enough? What did you spend the difference on instead?
Love this so much, good for you for sticking with it for 3 months! I did the same thing last year when I realized I was driving 25 minutes each way to a gym just to use the treadmill and a few weights I could easily keep at home. The driving alone was killing me, and half the time I'd skip it because of traffic. My setup now is just a yoga mat, some bands, and a cheap set of dumbbells, and I've been way more consistent than I ever was with the fancy place. That jar idea is genius too, I might have to steal it and save up for something I actually need instead of paying for a place I barely showed up to.
