Bought a $45 eSIM for Italy, my phone bill was still lower than roaming

Everyone swears by local SIMs but the airport kiosk line ate an hour of my Rome trip. Grabbed an eSIM online before landing and it just worked, no hunting for a store or dealing with a language barrier. Anyone else skip the local SIM and pay a bit more for the convenience?
