The grocery app total never matched my receipt, took 4 months to notice

I've been using the same store app for 4 months to plan meals and track what I spend. Last week I actually compared the app total to my receipt line by line. Turns out it was counting sale items at full price and adding stuff I removed from the cart. I overpaid by about $35 total across those months. Is there a trick to making these apps actually accurate or should I just go back to a paper list and calculator?

Wish I had a trick for you, but I'm the guy who trusts the app then wonders why my cart costs double what I planned... every single time. Guess we're both paying the "convenience tax" in the dumbest way possible.
