Rant: My old car finally died and I'm stuck with a $500 repair bill
Last Tuesday, my 2008 sedan just quit on me in the grocery store parking lot. The mechanic said the transmission is shot and quoted me $500 for a used one, plus labor. I bought this car for $2,000 three years ago and have put maybe $1,500 into it since. I'm really torn because that's a huge chunk of my emergency fund, but a new used car would cost way more. I keep thinking, do I fix this known problem or roll the dice on another cheap car with its own hidden issues? It feels like a lose-lose situation. What would you do if your main ride needed a repair worth half its value?

Fix it, a known devil beats an unknown one.

Man, that hits hard, @nina_johnson86. Sometimes you just gotta stick with what you know.

Isn't that the truth we all live with sometimes?
