My buddy had the same thing happen with a discount hose from the big box store. Water soaked his entire crawl space before he noticed.

Builds on what @kai914 said, those cheap hoses are basically just time bombs waiting to flood your house. The worst part is they usually fail in the middle of the night or when you're on vacation, so you come home to a swamp. I've seen people spend more on water damage repair than they saved on the hose by like fifty times over. If someone buys one of those spray nozzle attachments from the dollar store, that's another guaranteed leak point waiting to happen.
