Old timer in Pittsburgh called me out for rushing butter joints

Guy I was working with on a restoration in Shadyside stopped me mid-wall and said 'slow down, you're making more work for yourself'. He was right about the butter joints - spent an extra 2 hours the next day fixing my sloppy work. Anyone else had an old head set them straight like that?

My grandpa did the same thing to me when I was helping him tape drywall in his basement back in 2015. He pointed out I was layin the mud on too thick and it was gonna take forever to dry and sand. Took me a whole extra afternoon to fix what I shoulda done right the first time. The old timers know their stuff cause they've made every mistake you can think of already. I still hear his voice in my head every time I pick up a knife.

I dunno man, an extra afternoon of sanding drywall doesn't sound THAT life changing. Your grandpa was probably just being a perfectionist, old people love nitpicking stuff like that.

layin the mud on too thick and it was gonna take forever to dry and sand" - wait, are you serious that he called you out in 2015 and you STILL hear his voice? That's crazy man, I had an old guy tell me the same thing last summer and I swear I can't butter a joint without thinking "feather it out, kid" in his raspy voice. It's wild how those moments just stick in your head forever, like a splinter you can't get out. I bet your grandpa would be proud you're still paying attention to his lessons a decade later, even if he's not around to see it.
