Old foreman's one word feedback changed how I lay block

Back in 2019 on a job in Tulsa, this retired foreman watched me lay a full course of block, then just said 'breathe' and walked off. I figured he meant take a break, but later he showed me I was rushing my mud joints and not letting the mortar settle. Has anyone else had a senior guy give feedback that was short but totally shifted your technique?

Slow down means the block lines up better anyway.
