Can we talk about how I used to defend every call my manager made, vs now I just write it down?
Back at my old retail job in 2018 I would argue with my friends that our manager's schedule changes were fine, because I figured he knew more than I did. Now I keep a little notebook and write down the date and time every time my current boss moves my shift with no notice, and I have 11 entries since January. Has anyone else switched from defending their boss to keeping receipts like this, or am I just getting older and crankier?
Wait, are we all just slowly turning into our own HR department? Because that is exactly what happened to me. I used to think my boss walked on water and every messed up schedule was just "part of the job," and now I have a notes app full of dates like I'm building a court case. Honestly the notebook thing is kind of funny when you step back and look at it, like we went from loyal employee to detective without even noticing. I don't think you're crankier, you just figured out that "he knows more than me" stops being true the second he keeps making the same mistake. Eleven entries since January is not old age, that is just math doing its thing.
