Rant: Wasted $120 on a cheap book press that warped my first project
I bought a bargain press off an auction site thinking I was saving money, but the wooden platen arrived crooked and left a permanent dent in the leather cover of a family photo album I was rebinding. Has anyone else had luck with DIY press alternatives, or am I stuck buying a proper one?

A crooked platen straight from the box? That's rough, paid for a tool that damaged your work before you even got started. A family album too, that's the kind of mistake that stings every time you look at it.

No way, a crooked platen right out of the box? That's unbelievable. You'd think they'd catch something that bad at the factory before it ever got shipped out. And for it to ruin a family album, that's just heartbreaking. Those are the kind of photos you can't ever get back or redo. I'd be furious if a brand new tool did that to my own stuff. Makes you wonder about their quality checks, doesn't it?
