Cotton thread vs linen thread, my spine repair just got easier

I spent 3 months fixing old library books with cotton thread and kept having to redo the sewing. Switched to linen thread from a shop in Philly last Friday and the stitches hold shape without twisting. Do you find linen worth the extra few dollars per spool for rebinding?

Did you wax the linen before you started sewing? I did a batch of old hymnals last spring and the first few signatures kept slipping because I skipped that step. Once I ran the thread over a block of beeswax a couple times it gripped the paper way better and the knots stopped working loose. Raw linen has a mind of its own until you tame it.
