Switched to the 'unreliable narrator' read and the group chat exploded
I always pushed for taking every protagonist at face value, until our June pick in Portland had two timelines that contradicted each other. One member found a 2003 interview where the author admitted the whole thing was a lie, and now I see the book as a completely different story. Has anyone else flipped sides on a reading approach after someone dug up outside evidence?
Wait, the author straight up said the whole book was a lie in an interview? That is wild. Like, how does that even work, did they just get tired of people asking about it and decide to blow the whole thing up? If I had been in your group and read that interview, my whole view of the book would have flipped too. It kind of bugs me that a story can just be undone by something the writer says years later. That almost feels like cheating, but at the same time you can't unsee it once it's out there.
