Appreciation post: poetry I used to roll my eyes at is now my go-to

I spent years thinking poetry was just vague stuff people pretended to understand. Then I picked up Mary Oliver's "Wild Geese" after a rough week and it hit me square in the chest. Anyone else have a genre they wrote off but came around to?

Did you ever read that poem about the red wheelbarrow? Still puzzles me.

Treated it like one of those modern art pieces where you just stand there and let it be weird. Read it out loud a few times, then looked up what other people said about it online. Eventually just accepted that sometimes a poem about a wheelbarrow and some chickens is just that, and that's fine.
