Why does nobody talk about just playing the game wrong to have more fun?
Honestly, my group was getting super competitive over Terraforming Mars, so last week I suggested we ignore the corporate era cards and just focus on building cool engines. Ngl, it was way more chill and we actually finished in under two hours. Has anyone else tried bending the rules to fix a bad vibe?

My group's house rule for Monopoly is we just ignore rent, which honestly fixes everything.

Forget rent, the real fix is making the Free Parking jackpot actually matter. Put all the tax money and fines in there, but also make it so landing on Go pays double. That way the game has a real cash sink and a crazy lottery ticket that can turn things around fast. Saw a guy come back from one house on Baltic because he hit Free Parking at the right time. Changes the whole vibe from a slow grind to a wild gamble.

Ignoring rent does fix the core problem, the game just becomes a property grab. But I like what olivia_bailey said about Free Parking. That rule adds a real reason to keep playing when you're broke. It gives you a stupid long shot instead of just waiting to lose. Your way cuts the grind, but her way makes the grind have a point. Both are better than the official rules.
