Realized I was teaching new players wrong for 2 years

I always explained the action economy first, thinking it was the core system, then a guy at Dice Addiction in Austin said "why are you teaching me math before the goal?" and I finally got it. Has anyone else had a moment where the obvious teaching order hit them way too late?
