My 12 year old nephew called my dice tower 'plastic art' and it stung more than it should

Last Friday he came over and watched me set up a game of Arkham Horror, and he asked why I keep all my minis in foam trays. I tried to explain the storage logic, but he just shrugged and said 'you care about this more than art class.' That comment got me thinking about how we treat game components like tools while everyone else sees them as toys or clutter. Does anyone else find themselves defending the hobby to younger folks who just don't get the tactile side of it, or am I the only one taking a 9 year old's opinion this personally?
