I finally visited that board game cafe in Portland everyone raves about

The place was packed, but I noticed something off. Out of maybe 30 groups playing, I counted 22 that were just on their phones, not even looking at the game on the table. The staff told me it's a normal Friday night. I get wanting a social spot, but if you're paying a $5 cover to ignore the game, why even go? It felt more like a regular cafe with unused board games as decor. Has anyone else seen this happen at their local game spot?
