Found a way to get my game group to actually finish a campaign

My group of four has tried to get through the Gloomhaven campaign three separate times over the past two years. We'd always get about ten scenarios in, someone's schedule would blow up, and we'd forget all the rules and story threads. This time, I made a shared Google Sheet that tracks our party's gold, items, and unlocked scenarios. I also started taking a picture of the board state with my phone at the end of every session. It sounds simple, but having that quick visual reference last week saved us 30 minutes of setup trying to remember where we left all the monster standees and damage tokens. We're now 15 scenarios deep, which is a record for us. Does anyone else have a specific tool or method that finally got their group over the campaign hump?

That photo of the board state is such a smart move. My old group fell apart trying to remember which dungeon tiles we'd used last time, and we wasted half the night just arguing about it. A simple picture would have saved so much headache. Why do we always overcomplicate this stuff? Your Google Sheet sounds like the kind of simple fix that actually works.

My friend Mark's D&D group kept losing track of house rules. He finally typed up a one page cheat sheet and printed copies for everyone, which completely fixed the problem. Sometimes the simplest fix is the one that sticks.

Wasn't there a study about how writing things down helps memory?
