Bought a cheap anvil off Facebook for $80 and chipped it on the first project

It was some cast iron thing from a farm auction and the face crumbled like a dry muffin when I tried to upset a 1 inch bar, so now I'm out the cash and my time hauling it, has anyone else gotten burned by a fake anvil?

$80 for a farm auction anvil lol you basically bought a paperweight with a fancy shape. Cast iron anvils are total trash for any real work, they're just for decoration or holding doors open. The worst part is you probably spent more on gas hauling that thing home than the actual "anvil" was worth. At least now you've got a good doorstop or something to prop up your truck's hood while you work on it. Chalk it up to a lesson learned the hard way, we've all bought something stupid off Facebook Marketplace at 2am.

That 80 bucks could've gone towards a good used anvil at a scrap yard if you'd waited a week or two. I've seen guys take those cast iron ones and grind a hardened steel plate onto the face, makes them usable for light work. Not saying it's ideal, but there's a way to salvage it if you're handy with a welder.
