Vent: everyone pushed me to take the promotion in Denver, and quitting it after 7 weeks was the best call
When my boss offered me the supervisor job in Denver last spring, my friends all said I would be crazy to turn down the extra $9 an hour. I moved 400 miles from my place in Pueblo, rented a cramped apartment near the yard, and started the Monday after Memorial Day. By week 7 I was waking up at 4am with my chest tight, staring at the ceiling, dreading every crew meeting and every phone call. I walked into his office that Friday, handed back the keys and the tablet, and drove home that same night. Everyone keeps saying you should stick out a big change for at least 6 months, but who actually decided that number? Has anyone here bailed on a promotion or a move fast and had people treat you like you gave up?
My sister did almost the same thing years back, took a job two states away and came home after a month. My mom still brings it up at Thanksgiving like it was a crime. Funny how nobody says a word when you stay somewhere miserable for years, but bail in a few weeks and suddenly everyone's a life coach.
