Update: My old captain said moving across the country for a job was a mistake, and 8 months in I owe him a thank you
When I got offered a firefighter spot in Boise, my captain of 11 years pulled me aside and said the pace would be too slow and I would hate it within a year. I almost skipped the move because of that one talk, but my wife pushed me to go and we made the drive in October. Eight months later I am on a crew that runs maybe 4 calls a shift instead of 15, and I actually know my neighbors now. Has anyone else had a mentor talk them out of something they ended up loving?
