Serious question, did I mess up turning down the overnight shift?

My plant in Aurora offered me the 11pm to 7am line for $3.50 more an hour and I said no so I could keep dinner with my kids, but now my buddy took it and cleared $900 extra last month. Anyone else pick time at home over the bigger check and actually stick with it?
