Picked up chain lube mixing from an old timer, but new stuff comes pre-made. Is custom blending worth the hassle?

Ever get so deep into mixing your own brew that you feel like a mad scientist in your garage? I went down that road once, had bottles and formulas everywhere. Honestly, for the average ride, the store stuff works just fine and doesn't leave your hands smelling like a chemical plant. That old timer knowledge is cool to have, but it's kinda like knowing how to tune a carburetor on a car that just needs a computer plug-in. Sometimes simpler is better, you know? Saves a lot of time and mess.

But don't you find that the fun is in the mess sometimes? I totally get the point about saving time, but for some folks, that mad scientist phase is the whole hobby! It's like cooking a huge meal from scratch versus ordering takeout. Sure, the takeout is easier and just as good, but you miss the weird pride of making it yourself, even if your kitchen is a disaster zone. For a lot of people, the store stuff is perfect. But for others, the process is the point, even if it's totally not needed.

Still, my stained hands are proof I took the mad scientist thing way too far.
