Why does nobody talk about saying no to the 'let me speak to your manager' threat?
I worked the register at a sandwich shop in Boise for two years, and I always caved when a guy said those words, handing over free food just to keep the peace. Last Tuesday a woman demanded a refund on a half-eaten sub and I finally just said no, calmly, and pointed at the sign. She yelled for five minutes, then left, and my manager backed me up the whole way. I always thought giving in was the job, but it made every shift worse for all of us. Has anyone else held the line and had it actually go fine?
