My coworker told me I was handing change wrong for 6 months

She said I was slapping coins on the counter instead of placing them in peoples palms. Switched it up last week and suddenly customers are actually saying thanks instead of giving me that side eye.

Honestly that's such a good point about the germ thing, I never even thought of that. People can be weird about hand contact and honestly good for you for just rolling with it.

Start by admitting that whole time you thought you were being rude when really you were just following what you learned as a kid. My parents always made me put money on the counter so they could count it themselves (guess they didn't trust me with it). But here's the thing nobody's talking about - some people actually prefer coins on the counter because they don't want a stranger touching their hand. Especially now with all the germ stuff floating around. Your coworker might just be from a different generation where palm-in-hand was the polite move. So honestly it sounds like you found a way to make more people happy without even realizing it.
