Wish I'd compared those two clipper blade brands before I messed up 3 haircuts in a row

I've been using the same brand of clipper blades for 5 years, and last month I tried a cheaper set from a different brand because my regular ones were backordered. First cut, the blade started pulling on dry hair and left a choppy fade line near the temple on a regular client. Switched back to my old brand halfway through the next haircut, and it was smooth as butter with no snagging at all. The difference was the blade gap out of the box - the cheap ones were almost 1/8th too tight and I didn't catch it until it was too late. Has anyone else had a bad run with an off-brand blade that messed up your schedule?

Grab a feeler gauge and check the gap before you even plug in next time. I lost two good haircuts to a cheap blade before I started doing that on every new set. Saved me more headaches than I can count.

I get what you're saying but honestly I've never bothered with a feeler gauge and my blades have been fine. A lot of those cheap blades just have bad steel more than a bad gap in my experience.
