Tried the 45 degree blade trick for necklines, totally backfired

I tested that trick where you angle the clipper blade at 45 degrees to soften the neckline on a client in Austin last Tuesday. It left this weird patchy shadow line about an inch wide that looked like a bad sunburn line. Has anyone else tried this method, or did I just mess up the angle and the pressure?

Honestly that patchy shadow line sounds like you had too much pressure on the blade. Ive messed up the same way before and it always comes down to barely grazing the skin with zero push. The 45 degree trick only works if you let the blade do all the work and you just glide it super light. Also check your blade gap before you start, if its too tight it grabs and leaves those weird streaks. And for the love of god dont try to fix it by going over it again with the same angle, you just dig it deeper. Next time try a 30 degree angle with a half guard on and see if that evens out better.
