My favorite clipper from 2012 finally gave out on me last Thursday
I had this old Wahl clipper I bought when I first started cutting hair out of my garage in Columbus. It lasted over a decade through thousands of cuts, never gave me any trouble. Last week I was doing a fade on a regular client and it just started smoking mid cut, had to finish with my backup pair. I ordered a new one online but man it feels weird using something different after all these years. Anyone else ever get attached to a specific tool like that and have trouble switching over?

Oh come on, getting attached to a clipper is just nostalgia clouding your judgment. Tools are meant to be replaced when they break, not mourned like an old friend. A new clipper with updated tech will probably cut cleaner and last just as long if you take care of it.

My dad had an old Wahl clipper that lasted 25 years, @piper_reed. The new ones just don't hold up the same way. Sometimes the old stuff was built better.

Ever wonder if the real issue is that nobody bothers to fix things anymore? Twenty five years ago if a clipper started acting up your dad probably took it apart and cleaned it or replaced a part. Now we just toss them and buy another one for forty bucks. The old stuff wasn't necessarily better built, it was just built to be repaired instead of thrown away. That's the part nobody talks about when they compare old and new tools.
