Neighborhood watch newsletters used to tell you who got arrested, now it's all lost dogs
I've been getting these block association flyers since 1999 when I moved to the old part of Akron. Back then they listed actual crime reports, house break-ins, car thefts, suspicious van sightings, even a guy who got caught stealing mail on 3rd Street. This month's newsletter had two lost cats, a garage sale, and a note about raccoons knocking over trash bins. Our neighborhood didn't get safer, the property values sure didn't go up. But I guess people got scared to name names after that one family sued the association for calling their son a graffiti suspect in 2011. Has anyone else watched their local crime watch turn into a pet lost and found? What got your group to stop printing the real stuff?
