My dad told me to never accept a counteroffer from my boss, and I ignored him for a $5k raise.
Back in 2018 at a marketing firm in Denver, I gave my two weeks notice and my boss came back with a $5k raise to stay. I took it, but within 3 months they outsourced my entire team and let me go. Has anyone else seen counteroffers backfire like this?

Oh man, my best friend Sarah did the exact same thing at her old job and they fired her 6 weeks later. Boss said all the right stuff about how valuable she was but it was just a stall tactic while they trained her replacement.

Honestly, yeah, that's a rough lesson but your dad had a point. Tbh, most bosses only offer more money to buy time to replace you, not because they value you.
