Walked into a Chase branch in Boise and saw a sign saying cash deposits over $5k need an appointment
I was in Boise visiting my brother a couple weeks back and stopped at the Chase on Fairview to drop off a check from a side job. Right at the teller window there was a printed sign: cash deposits over $5,000 require a scheduled appointment. I only had a $600 check so it didn't matter to me, but the guy ahead of me got turned away with a backpack full of cash and he was not happy about it. I get why banks do it, fraud is real and branches don't keep as much cash on hand as they used to, plus half the tellers got replaced by machines anyway. But on the other side, if I run a food truck or a barber shop and I take in $6k in cash over a weekend, am I supposed to book a slot like a dentist visit just to give the bank my money? My brother says he's had to do it twice this year and once the earliest opening was 5 days out, so he just drove to a different branch. Seems like the people who need branches the most are the ones getting pushed out the door. Is this normal everywhere now or is it just a downtown Boise thing?
