Teller machine ate my deposit envelope and then the branch manager fixed my overdraft in 10 minutes
Walked into the Fifth Third branch on Maple Street last Tuesday with $640 in loose checks and coins, the envelope got jammed in the counter machine, and instead of the usual runaround the manager manually credited everything plus waved the $35 fee, so has anyone else found that smaller branches actually solve messes faster than the phone line?
Had the exact same thing happen at a small credit union branch two years ago when their machine jammed on my paycheck. The teller couldn't fix it herself but grabbed the branch manager who just typed some stuff into her computer and boom, money was in my account before I even left the building. Called the 800 number the next day for something else and sat on hold for 45 minutes, which proves your point right there. Small branches have people who can actually make a decision instead of reading from a script and transferring you around. That manager waved your fee because she had the power to do it, plain and simple. Corporate phone lines are built to wear you down until you give up, but a real person behind a desk looking at you face to face just wants to get you out of there happy.
