I moved $4,200 out of my checking account into a savings account and my debit card got declined at a Target in Dallas
Here is what happened. I set up an automatic transfer that swept anything over $1,500 out of checking every Friday, and it worked fine for about 6 weeks. Then last Tuesday my card got declined on a $38 purchase because I forgot a couple of autopay bills were coming out the same week. So now I am stuck on the fence. One side says keep the buffer thin because I save way more and I can just move money back in two taps. The other side says thin buffers cause exactly this kind of mess and I should keep at least a full month of bills sitting in checking. Where do you all draw the line on how much cash stays liquid?
