Chase held my $3,200 for 11 days without any explanation

Deposited a certified check from my credit union. Certified. Chase put a hold on it. Called them. They said "security review." No details. No timeline. Just wait. 11 days later the money showed up. No apology. No letter explaining anything. Has anyone else had certified checks held that long? Feels like they can just freeze your money whenever they want.

Damn, that's rough. But honestly, did you ever ask them straight up if they were holding it just to earn interest on your money for those 11 days? I swear banks do that with large deposits, they hold it as long as they can get away with. Like, they know a certified check is basically cash, but they'll still sit on it and make a few bucks off the float. Did you get any kind of interest or compensation for the delay? Probably not, right?

Man, that is infuriating. 11 days on a certified check from another credit union? That's just them being lazy or trying to make some extra interest off your money. Same thing happened to me with Wells Fargo a few years back on a $4,000 insurance payout check. They held it for a full two weeks and when I finally got a manager on the line, she just mumbled something about "fraud prevention protocols." No letter, no call, nothing. It's a terrible feeling knowing your own money is just sitting there in their system and you can't touch it. Did you file a complaint with the CFPB?
