Why does nobody talk about how freezing cake layers changes everything?

I always had trouble with crumbs when frosting my cakes. After trying the freezer trick, my last cake looked smooth and professional. What small change improved your baking results?

Freeze layers one at a time, saves space.

My freezer is too small for cake pans, so I've never seen the big deal.

Have you considered taking the layers out of the pans to freeze them? I had a tiny freezer too and it was so annoying. What worked for me was letting the layers cool, then wrapping each one tight in plastic wrap. I laid them flat on a baking sheet until they were frozen hard. After that, I stacked them with paper between and they fit in a small bag or container. It saved a ton of space because the pans weren't in there at all. Game changer for making cakes ahead without the stress.
